ooer that doesnt look good!!!!

ok, ive just been talking to my local dealer and the recall isnt on all rsv4 bikes, its just a certain batch that went out with a certain sub standard part.
my guess is its probably the conrods that went during the infamous launch episode but i maybe wrong.
now i suppose that the mcn will run tomorrow with the sensational headlines spalshed everywhere and it will make aprillia look bad.
i dunno, but it does look like aprillia are trying to nip this in the bud before the season starts which is good but what will it do for sales and resale values?
anyone else heard anything?

apparently its restricted to 30 bikes in uk! whose had a recall notice and what did it say?
|
Mine's one of the 30, Just got a message from my dealer... no details yet, but will update as soon as I can.

Well all I'm hearing is sub-standard parts slipped through, I am suspecting conrods and it's going to be a complete engine replacement... that's probably the good news... much easier than a strip down and re build. Trackdays booked in March/April, so let's hope Aprilia pull their fingers out.
It's not going to help values and resale though, look at what happened to the iconic Gixxer K5 after the frames began cracking.

Just got news that I am one of the lucky ones who has to have the engine swapped out. Bit of a bugger as have Phillip Island WSBK in a few weeks and a track day after the race weekend.
Have been told aprilia are sending over their own technicians in two weeks to do the work. Surely they will come to the party as far as first services go as I have just paid for mine. Have to start the running in process all over again; just when the fun was starting.
Oh well, hopefully won't cop an oil leak this time.
Cheers from Oz.

The track is the best place to break-in the new engine...then, immediately replace the oil and filter.

so which method have you used?
ive heard this before and when i bought my suzuki gsxr 750k4 new decided i would run it in hard.
i had the bike for 3 seasons and it never gave any problem and was very quick, however no one usually keeps a bike for life and uses it for long periods of time so i dont know abouty the engine life aspect.
|
For all the new engines, I've always ran it hard no more than 50-60 miles, then replaced the oil and filter. You are right about not keeping the bike for a lifetime...I usually keep mine for about 5 years, due to upgraded motorcycle technology. But those 5 years provided plenty of track time on a strong engine
I hope the RSV4 will perform with the same reliability and strength as previous bikes...maybe after the engine replacement
